My Secret Cheesecake Chocolate Recipe

I have to keep my recipe secret for reasons that will soon be apparent. You need to start out with some very fine chocolate. The recipe calls for a cup of chocolate, and you have several choices here. Hershey chocolate makes a good semi-sweet chip that works perfectly, but other fine choices are Ghirardelli chocolate or even of the fine Lindt chocolates. You may pick your favorite, although I usually stick with the Hershey chocolate.

Start by preheating the oven to 400 degrees. While this is being done melt the chocolate in a double boiler with a third of a cup of heavy cream and set it aside when it is smooth. Next, take twenty four ounces of softened cream cheese, one cup of sugar, a quarter teaspoon of Grand Marnier liqueur and mix in an electric mixer until completely smooth. The Grand Marnier is the first hint why this recipe is a secret. Add four eggs and blend the whole mixture well.

Once it is blended, add the melted chocolate mix and two tablespoons of Crown Royal whiskey and blend it all again. When this is finished pour the whole prepared batter into a sprayed nine inch spring form pan. Turn the heat up on the oven to four hundred and fifty degrees and bake for fifteen minutes. Reduce the heat to three hundred and fifty degrees and bake for an additional fifteen minutes. The result is called an upside down Crown Royal Double Chocolate Cheesecake.

Ingredients:

1 cup Chocolate of your choice

1/3 cup heavy cream

1 cup of sugar

24 oz Cream cheese, softened

4 eggs

2 tablespoons Crown Royal Canadian Whiskey

1/4 teaspoon Grand Marnier liqueur

The real surprise and the secret is to not tell your guests what is giving this chocolate treat that special zing until after they have had seconds. You are going to always have some guests that are going to object to the waste of good Crown Royal in that fashion and others are going to be eager to suggest there own favorite as a substitute. I have always preferred Crown Royal, but anyway, we all know it is really that fine Hershey chocolate, or that Ghirardelli chocolate, or the fine Lindt chocolates from faraway Switzerland that are really giving it that fine taste. The whiskey is just an extra touch, and one you can keep to yourself.

Residential Boilers

In the United States most households are equipped with residential boilers. Old Fashion Pie Recipes - Lemon With Meringue and Mom Wilburn's Chocolate Meringue

Remember those delicious pies when you visited grandmother's house as a kid? Bring that taste to your own dinner table and share your memories with your own kids. Here are old fashion pie recipes from my vintage collection that are sure to bring back mouth-watering memories. Pick your favorite or try them both; Lemon Pie with Meringue or Mom Wilburn's Chocolate Meringue Pie.

MOM WILBURN'S CHOCOLATE MERINGUE PIE
This recipe was from the mother of the Country Music Duo and Grand Old Opry stars, "The Wilburn Brothers". She said it was the pie she baked most often when they were boys growing up in Missouri.

1 cup sugar
4 tbsps cocoa, level
4 tbsps flour, level
Yolks of 3 large eggs, save whites for meringue
1/4 stick butter or margarine
1 1/4 cups sweet milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 9" pie shell, baked

Combine the sugar, cocoa, flour, and 1/4 cup of the milk; mix well. Add the egg yolks and remaining milk, butter and vanilla. Cook in a double boiler until thick. Pour into the baked pie shell. Cover with the meringue topping listed below.

For the Meringue Topping:

3 large egg whites
1/4 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 tbsps sugar

Beat the egg whites until stiff. Add the vanilla and 1/2 tablespoon of the sugar. Continue to beat. Gradually beat in the remaining sugar. Pile the meringue on the pie, spreading all the way to the crust to seal the edges. Bake in a 300 degree oven until the meringue is browned, about 8 to 10 minutes.

Lemon Pie with Meringue
This recipe is a clipping from an old women's magazine.

1 lightly baked pie crust shell
1 1/3 cups sugar
1/3 cup cornstarch
1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
Yolks of 5 large eggs, reserve whites for meringue
1 tbsp grated lemon zest
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
2 tbsps cold butter, cut into small pieces

In a 2-quart saucepan, mix sugar with cornstarch. With a wire whisk, stir in 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water, egg yolks and lemon juice. Bring mixture to a gentle boil while stirring. Boil, stirring, for approximately 1 minute until translucent and thick. Remove from heat, stir in the zest and butter until butter is melted and blended in. Pour into the lightly prebaked crust. Make meringue and top pie.

Meringue:

Whites from the 5 large eggs used in pie
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
3/4 cup sugar

Beat egg whites and cream of tartar in a large bowl on low speed of electric mixer until they form soft peaks. Increase speed to medium-high and add sugar, a little at a time, beating just until stiff peaks form. Spoon meringue over the lemon filling and spread to the edges sealing to pie crust. Make decorative swirls in meringue. Bake 20 minutes at 350 degrees until browned. Cool completely. Refrigerate until serving time. Leftovers should also be refrigerated.

Beware of furniture from big box retailers - Diva -
Target stores are a dime a dozen. I almost purchased a Mission-style side table from Target until I opened the box and found that the end of a leg had a chip in the wood. After that I began to notice that when I visited a store and looked at furniture on display, at least one (often more) pieces had a visible defect or damage. "Solid wood" is not "solid" if it's actually two or more pieces of wood pressed and glued together to form one single shape. The moral of this story? When you're thinking of buying furniture from big box retailers, remember: buyer beware.

Candlemaking - Equipment Needed For Home Candlemaking

Thermometer

If you want to make good quality candles, then make sure that you have a candle making thermometer. Waxes melt at particular temperatures and different candles require different temperatures. Once wax is heated to a 100 degrees vapours are released and at this point it should be treated as flammable oil.

As wax gets hotter it's inner structure changes and it is impossible to guess the temperature of liquid wax, therefore, the only way that you can be sure that you are working at the correct temperature, and get good results, is to use the right sort of thermometer. A clinical thermometer from the bathroom cabinet is of no use, as you need one that is calibrated between 38 and 180 degrees. This may sound a bit technical or make you want to put this hobby on hold for now, but it is really no big deal, you can go visit my blog for tips and advice or send me mail to get a quote and order a thermometer that will be mailed to you anywhere in the world.

Double Boiler

This should be made of stainless steel or aluminium, and the upper part should have a capacity of at least 3 litres. If necessary, then you can use one saucepan standing inside another, although I personally do not use double boilers simply because it takes to long for my liking. I use any seamless pot even ones that you get from some florist supplies, but generally any old household pot or camping kettle is perfect for melting wax.

Dipping can

This is a tall cylindrical container used for holding liquid wax for dipping candles after removal from the moulds. You also need these type of container for making handmade dinner candle, which is one of my all time favorites. I personally have several of these cans and one large 6 pot industrial double boiler. I got a welding company to put together 500mm by 100mm steel pipes with round bases and handles for me but if you have a friend or a handy husband then you just need the steel.

Measuring flask or jug

This is needed for determining the capacity of a mould and is necessary if you are making a small number of candles for home use or as gifts for friends. Fill your mould with water and then empty it into flask. For every 100mm of water you will need about 90g of solid wax.

Weighing scales

Ordinary kitchen scales are ideal for weighing materials.

Wick needles

These are steel needles 10-25cm long and they are very useful for inserting wicks and for securing the wick at the base of the mould. Personally I use small rectangular pieces of wood with a hole drilled through the middle but this is only useful if your base is large enough to allow space to pour the liquid wax.

Bowls

Washing-up bowls are ideal and you may need more than one if you are making a few candles. A bowl of hot water is used to keep dipping cans at the right temperature, whilst cold water is used as a water bath to speed up the cooling process.

Heat

You will need a source of heat for melting the wax. An ordinary domestic cooker(gas or electric) is ideal. Try to work a close as possible to your heat source, because wax loses heat quite quickly when it is placed on a cooler surface, it is quite the nuisance when you are making a number of candles and have to run back and forth to reheat your wax.

I did end up having to exchange one of the two end tables as there were way too many defects to keep it. The big issue I have had with these tables is that the bottom shelf doesn't line up so that it is plush with every leg. No one but me would notice, but it is annoying. Otherwise I love them and have had many compliments. Great buy for the price in my opinion. It's something you could purchase at a box furniture store, but with a cheaper price tag.

I bought this table because I purchased the coffee table for my new apartment. It isn't all solid wood, there is some mdf involved but it went together in under ten minutes, looks fantastic and was an unbeatable price. The bottom shelf doesn't line up perfectly, but it looks good enough for the price.

Making Creative Use Of Living Room Tables For Decorating

A table is a furniture unit which is seen in every home used for a variety of purposes from study to dining, tables are a very popular type of furniture unit. Theoretically speaking a table is nothing
but a horizontal platform with legs that support various activities in everyday work.

Since the primary function of a table can not be defined with 100% guarantee the form and shape/size of tables greatly vary. For example tables for studying/dining/coffee/in restaurants/in bedrooms/
in living rooms all have different sizes.

In living rooms two types of tables are primarily used. First are the end tables that come with a living room furniture set as part of the other furniture units like sofas and chairs and the second type is a coffee table. As the name suggests a coffee table is normally placed in the center of the "loop" formed by sofas and is used to serve eatables or drinks etc. because of this the overall volume of the coffee table is short and does not "over occupy" the living room.

On the other hand end tables are only used as fillers to occupy the small corners at the "end" of sofa units where living room ends. These kind of tables are also mostly used to keep a flowering arrangement or statues that will hide the unwanted corners of the room. The typical height of both end and coffee tables measures to be 450 mm (1 feet 6 inches approx.) This height does not obstruct the vision of the people occupying the living room.

The coffee table normally comes in a two layer design. The upper layer is used to serve coffee or other eatables and the lower layer can be used to keep magazines/newspapers.

One very creative way to break the old pattern of decorating is to use the end tables as a coffee table but in more numbers. For example instead of using a single rectangular coffee table with glass top you can use two wooden end tables and two glass+steel end tables to create an interesting pattern. Since the end tables measure shorter in demission around 450mmX450mm such type of design will not obstruct the human movement between the sofa loop.

Also the variation in top surface material will give rise to interesting material themes that can be repeated elsewhere also. Some possible shapes of such an arrangement could be

* A big square using 4 small squares end tables of different top surface finish

* 2 small square tables with 2 half round tables at both ends to form a "capsule" shape in plan.

* Two rectangular end tables to for a "L" shape.

The variations can be unlimited if done creatively. But one thing remains to explore here, what happens to the "end" space where these end tables need to be placed primarily? Of course this space is a good one to place a attention grabbing feature such as a medium height plant or even designer lampposts. The advantage of using these is they will evenly balance the visual focus away from the center tables and form a visual frame in the living room by providing good lighting at the same time.
